Stop organising. Start briefing.

Organising a to-do list is a different skill from actually deciding what to do — and the wrong one to practice.

I used to spend real time organising my to-do list — colour-coding, re-sorting, nesting subtasks. None of that is deciding what to do. It's the appearance of deciding, which is worse than doing nothing, because it feels productive.

The fix was blunter than I expected: instead of organising a list, I brief a system on what's true this week and let it hand back three things. Briefing forces a decision. Organising just delays one.
